On June 17, 2021, we have established an association (Verein) to launch the Point Alpha Research Institite on the former inner-German border between Hessen and Thuringia. The Institute will be run as a collaboration between Fulda University of Applied Sciences and University of Erfurt and be funded by the Federal State of Thuringia. Work will address Cold War Studies, Border Studies, and questions of Democracy in a Global Order.
On April 29, 2021, I have been appointed Professor in Political Science (Politics of Human Rights) at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. I fear that I cannot remember the exact wording, but I had to say “I swear”. Photo with Präsident Prof. Dr. Karim Khakzar and Dean Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Reinhard.
On Monday, Jan 25, I have successfully finished the process of my Habilitation with a talk on “tax arbitrage: on the global production of grey zones”. Feels great! My thanks go the members of the commission who generated a great atmosphere for academic discussion, even though the event had to take place online.
My “In-Between Juridification and Politicisation: Zooming in on the Everyday Politics of Law” has been published in an edited volume on “Rethinking Politicisation in Politics, Sociology and International Relations” edited by Claudia Wiesner with Springer’s Palgrave Studies in European Political Sociology book series (PSEPS).
“The Workings of Power in Transnational Law”, which is also the part of my kumulative Habilitation at Universität Hamburg, has been published in the TLI Think! Working Paper Series (Transnational Law Institute, Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London). The paper is available here and here.
Since September 2020, I am a senior research fellow at the Dickson Poon School of Law Transnational Law Institute, King’s College London. I’m looking forward to this collaboration. In November, I will convene a session on “Pandemics and Power: COVID-19 and the Politics of Health” for the TLI Focus Seminars.
In the winter term 2019/20 and summer term 2020, I will be Acting Professor of Political Science & the Politics of Human Rights at Hochschule Fulda, Germany.
Critical Exchange on “Rethinking Politicisation” (ed. by Kari Palonen und Claudia Wiesner) with my contribution on “Juridification, Politicization, and the Politics of Legal Practice” in Contemporary Political Theory 18: 2 (2019).
Date: 9th – 10th April 2019
Venue: Gerhard-Mercator-Haus, Lotharstraße 57, 47057 Duisburg
At this conference, the Centre would like to open a dialogue with other projects and agendas at the University Duisburg-Essen and partner institutions which address related topics from different perspectives and might therefore enrich, challenge or re-contextualize our research. These may include historical and contemporary processes of transnationalization, conflicts about global norms and values, global economic and social inequality, institution-building in the Global South, and the rise of regionalism, as well as tensions in specific fields of global governance, such as international migration, transnational labour markets, global health, trade, development cooperation or implications of digitalization.
I will give a talk on my transnational law of tax avoidance project.
